// saturday round-up (04/12)

Okay, Saturday review time. Lots of good stuff this week, so i’ve tried to post a variety rather than repeat too much from any one blogger, but it’s definitely worth following up on some of these guys.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK // the ache – a profound and heartfelt article about the sometime difficulty of living life as a Christian in the frequently critical university culture. It’s honest, not to mention painful at times, but that kind of honesty is good for the soul. Nathan Chud is the writer, and the article is here.

// what’s in the Bible – i’ve been plugging this to everyone I’ve met for the past week or so, because after the first minute and a half this video is totally hilarious. It’s from the same guy who made Veggietales, Phil Vischer, and I’m grateful to Krish Kandiah for putting me onto it. You can watch it here and my copy is coming in the next week, so i’ll let you know what it’s like.

// why should we care about Advent? – it’s been a while since I’ve heard anything from Rob Bell, and in that time a lot of people I know or read seem to have turned against him. It’s a shame, because this article for RELEVANT magazine is brilliant, and it reminds me what made him so worth reading in the first place. Read it here.

// tenacious questioning – another great prayer from Pastor Scotty Smith this week, courtesy of Tim Challies. Check it out.

// the 1-yard pop culture fumble – although the expression is particularly American, this blog from the always hilarious Jon Acuff is spot-on as ever. We’ve all been there. When was the last time you inadvertently forwarded on something completely inappropriate? The lesson being, always watch to the end.

// ke$ha vs. Ben Cantelon – I’ve never noticed this before, but now that you mention it… See what you think of this crazy mash-up and then you’ll never look at Ben Cantelon the same way again. Thanks to Tim Swann for this.

// the rue – i loved this picture from jonny baker this week.

// one way to get your husband more interested in the Biblethis made me laugh a lot. Kudos to Matthew at Jesus Needs New PR – he’s always good value for money, and this was the best of a really great week on his blog. The video of William Tapley from the day after, explaining why World War III started a few weeks ago and the number 11 is homosexual, is utterly astonishing, too. I’m not kidding. Astonishing.

And that’s the Saturday round-up for today!

I’ll see you tomorrow for Sunday music, where the theme will be great live versions.

Until then, I’ve been meditating on Paul’s words in Colossians, particularly with a view to the power of the gospel:

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people – the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world – just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace…

That’s my prayer for all of you today, too. Grace and peace.
