// sunday music: arcade fire

Arcade Fire’s new album, “The Suburbs”, is terrific – although if you’ve any previous experience of listening to Arcade Fire, you’ll already know that by now, as you’ll have bought it a few weeks back. If you haven’t, or you’ve never really got into Arcade Fire first time round, then maybe the excellent “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)”, with its echoes of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass”, will convince you:

For the past few weeks I’ve been replaying Arcade Fire’s second album, “Neon Bible”, too – back when it first came out it felt too bleak to listen to, especially with its grim reflections on organised religion, but lately I’ve been rediscovering its subtleties, especially in a song like “The Well and the Lighthouse”. There’s something triumphant about it, this weird and poetic exploration of faith and paranoia, and it’s also kind of hypnotic. Check it out here:

That’s your music for this week, enjoy your Sunday!
